Love it or hate it, it’s that day again. Mother’s Day.
“Why isn’t there a Kid’s Day?” my kids ask. Repeating the line I’ve heard for as long as I can remember, I explain that everyday is Kid’s Day. Today is OUR Hallmark day: our one little day in the year to be showered with love and appreciation … and free time.
Or not. Most of you are likely enduring all of the usual bum wiping, cooking and backtalk, only with slightly less patience because, today, you should be napping. Or getting a pedicure. Or watching Betty Draper on Mad Men, and feeling smug about your parenting.
Leaving aside what mom’s want, the ever-pervasive mommy-judging, whether we are good enough and how hard it is to juggle being an imperfect employee with being an imperfect mother, I must admit that there is something about the homemade “I love you mommy” and “you hab bin a gud mommy” Mother’s Day cards that make it all worthwhile.
At least until those cards are replaced with the “Why are you so intent on ruining my life??!?” variety.
To
mothers everywhere – HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!
